Beware of Common Plant Killers:

Improper application of mulch can kill plants. A 2-3" depth of mulch is ideal. Any deeper than this and most plants will suffocate. Also, more than 1/2" of mulch at the base of the trunk of any plant can eventually be detrimental.

Wire used to stake trees can "girdle" or choke the plant, so be sure to check the tightness as the tree grows. After one year, the stakes and wire should be removed from new transplants.

Typically, over-watering is the #1 cause for plant decline. Indiana's heavy clay soils can cause a "bathtub" effect, causing water to sit in the bottom of the hole and drown the plant. Also, be cautious of downspouts that drain into plants' root systems. K.D. Landscaping will not consider free replacement if over-watering is the problem.

Watering Schedule:

  • Plants & Shrubs
    45 seconds to 1 minute
    1 Time per week
3 to 4 weeks, then only if it does not rain for 2 weeks
  • Trees
    1 to 4 minutes
    1 Time per week
  • Perennials & Annuals
    5 to 10 minutes
1 Time per Week Can take daily water at customer's discretion
  • Sod
Enough to keep moist on bottom and top of sod
    1 Time per Day
    10 to 14 days
  • Seed
1 to 4 times a day Depending on the weather and not allowing water to puddle, but maintaining moist seed (if seed dries out, a loss of germation will result).
